The Hollywood actor Idris Elba has signalled a significant new creative venture in Ghana, following high-profile meetings with political and traditional leaders in the country.
In a social media post, Elba described his recent visit as “powerful”, revealing strategic conversations with President John Mahama and King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, alongside engagement with young talents from the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI).
The British actor, known for roles in “Luther” and “The Wire”, expressed a passionate commitment to developing Africa’s creative infrastructure. “Big moves always start with real conversations,” Elba wrote, emphasising the need for “the right support, the right infrastructure, and most importantly, access” in the continent’s emerging creative economy.
Suggesting this is more than a diplomatic visit, Elba hinted at a comprehensive plan “rooted in culture, creativity, and community” that he believes will “shape the future”. His cryptic closing statement, “Tell them. We are coming”, indicates a potentially transformative initiative in the works.
The actor has been increasingly vocal about his African heritage and investments in cultural development across the continent.
