Ghanaian striker Inaki Williams, who plays for the Black Stars, has ruled himself out of the upcoming clash against Madagascar in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers due to injury.
In a statement released on Monday, June 5, Williams revealed that he has been playing with pain in his right knee for the past few weeks. After consulting with the medical team, it was decided that he should take a break to address the issue and ensure he is fully fit for the preseason.
“Since a few weeks I’ve been playing with pain in my right knee. I decided to play until the end of the season, but after having spoken to the medical services, we’ve decided to stop and solve the problem to be 100% for the preseason.
“This wasn’t an easy decision to make because I won’t be able to be with my national team, Ghana the next meeting,” Inaki Williams announced.
The Black Stars striker added, “I want to say that I am fully committed and I will come back with the Black Stars if the coach deems it appropriate next calls.
“Thank you for your support.”
Ghana’s Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has called Hamburger SV forward Ransford Yeboah Königsdörffer to replace Inaki, he is expected to join the team on June 12.
The young forward who plys his trade in the Bundesliga 2 will team up with the Black Stars team for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Yeboah has been in and out of the Black Stars team in recent times but has not been given the chance to shine bright for the Stars team.
Ghana will face Madagascar in an away match on June 18. A victory in this penultimate qualifier could secure Ghana’s qualification for the tournament, which is set to be held in Ivory Coast.
