Three suspects have been arrested in Kenya in connection to the sale of illicit brew.
Several cartons of illicit liquor were also confiscated in the ongoing crackdown on counterfeit and illegal brews across the country, Kenyan police announced Friday.
In a statement, the National police service said two men were arrested in Kericho and the other one in Muranga.
They were found selling second-generation liquors.
During the operation in Kericho 103 bottles of liquor were confiscated.
In a similar operation in Machakos, security officers in collaboration with the Kenya revenue authority (KRA) officials managed to net 34 cartons of similar brew.
“In Murang’a, a multiagency team raided a stage bar in Gacharage where 33 cartons of liquor and crates were confiscated,” the statement read.
The ongoing crackdown comes a month after Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua declared a nationwide operation on the sale of illicit brews saying it has continued to claim the lives of many youths.
“If measures are not taken urgently, we will lose a productive age bracket of our people and we might lose the entire generation. I can confirm that we have a serious problem and we are worried that all sorts of drugs are now found in the villages and small towns,” Gachagua said.
