Local Kenyan journalists were on Tuesday November 15, 2022, barred from covering the visit of American businessman Bill Gates to the country.
According to the Public Relation officer in Makueni, Onesmus Nzokya, only BBC journalists will be allowed to cover the event.
“Media houses can contact the Public Relations team for details of the event,” he said.
They said they will share the details of the event will the local media houses afterwards.
Gates is in Kenya and is expected to hold a series of public engagements.
The Microsoft founder is set to meet government officials and other stakeholders in the private sector.
Gates will tour Makueni County and will be hosted by Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr.
Reports indicate that he will visit the Makueni Mother and Child hospital and Kathonzweni Health Centre.
He will also visit national and local leaders, partners, and grantees and also meet with regional scientists and innovators.
Gates will announce Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s commitment to supporting new innovations and ingenuity aimed at improving health, food security, and gender equality in African countries.
