The Governor of Kenya’s Trans Nzoia County, George Natembeya has called for the establishment of a public university in the county.
Speaking on Saturday, the governor asked President William Ruto to direct the government to begin the process of facilitating the creation of a university in Katale.
Natembeya, who spoke during the ceremony to install the new Kitale Catholic bishop, said residents are ready to provide necessary support to ensure a university is realised.
“We are one of the few counties without a university, please your excellency give our people a university,” he said.
“Even the new bishop who has been ordained is a professor, we can’t ask for more because he has asked for a university.”
The establishment of a university is some of the demands leaders from Trans Nzoia county tabled to the President.
The governor said the county has set a sided 200 acres of land to facilitate Affordable Housing in the county.
“Affordable Housing is one of your pet projects, please bring house for our people,” he said.
