Liberians will be voting on Tuesday October 10, President George Weah, 57, will face 19 candidates in the presidential election as he seeks second term in office.
President Weah’s first term is accused of multiple corruption and continued hardship, he have few days to convince voters.
The Liberian soccer star, came to power in 2017 on a wave of popular support after two unsuccessful attempts. He says he was on track to deliver progress in the poverty-stricken country, despite the coronavirus pandemic which he said dealt a setback to his original plans.
Speaking at a rally on Wednesday, he said: We have done almost 90% of what needs to be done, that is why we are coming back to you saying, extend our time,”
“I want history to show that rural roads in Liberia were paved by George Weah.”
His main opponent is former Vice President Joseph Boakai, 78, whom he defeated in a runoff in 2017.
The winner of the presidential election must get 50% of the total valid vote cast, plus one vote to win.
