English Premier League side Liverpool are the latest to express interest in midfielder Sofyan Amrabat as more Clubs join the race to secure the Moroccan star.
Sky Sports said that Liverpool is already holding talks with Fiorentina through intermediaries for the Atlas Lion.
The Reds could win the race over Amrabat as it has become difficult for Manchester United to afford Amrabat as it needs “outgoings to fund incomings,” Sky Sport journalist Peter Smith said.
This gives Liverpool an opportunity to fill the hole in its midfield with the Atlas Lion.
Many international reports stressed that Liverpool could still face competition from other clubs interested in Amrabat, notably Serie A powerhouse Juventus.
Football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano also tweeted about Amrabat’s potential move to Liverpool, stressing that no formal bid has been made yet.
He said that Fiorentina and Liverpool are just in contact to be informed on the conditions of the deal.
“No decision made yet, Liverpool are still exploring [the] market to pick [a] new favorite DM,” he added.
Sofyan Amrabat,26, caught the attention of many international football clubs – particularly following his heroic performances during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Despite the interest, Amrabat’s dream destination was reportedly FC Barcelona, which also displayed interest in him. However, the club could not secure a deal with him due to its financial difficulties.
Sofyan “really wanted to go to Barca and had a lot of hope that the whole operation could happen,” Sofyan Amrabat’s brother and former Moroccan international Nordin Amrabat said in a recent interview with ESPN.
