The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity has launched a massive relief effort aimed at providing much-needed assistance to the victims.
The initiative comes as a result of the high royal instructions of King Mohammed VI, underlining the Foundation’s commitment to aiding those affected by this natural disaster.
Abdellatif Moataad, project manager at the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, shared insights into the Foundation’s coordinated response. He emphasized that the Foundation has worked in close collaboration with various government ministries, including the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Social Protection, as well as local authorities and other stakeholders.
Their collective goal has been to pool all available resources and expertise to ensure the effective implementation of this humanitarian operation, Moataad explained.
In the Taroudant province, which tragically recorded 492 deaths according to the latest data from the Ministry of Interior, the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity has been at the forefront of relief efforts.
They have been actively involved in providing assistance to the affected families. Immediate actions include sheltering displaced individuals, distributing essential supplies such as tents, mattresses, blankets, and food, as well as offering crucial medical support provided by specialized healthcare teams.
Moataad revealed that the Foundation’s initial efforts have focused on the Onain communities, Sidi Abdallah and Said, and the Tafnoukt group. However, their commitment extends beyond these areas, as they plan to extend their assistance to other affected regions and communities in the Taroudant province in the coming days.
The Ministry of Interior has released updated statistics on the earthquake’s toll, reporting 2,122 casualties and 2,421 injuries as of the fourth hour after the incident on Sunday. These numbers underscore the magnitude of the disaster, but public authorities remain resolute in their efforts to manage the crisis.
In the wake of this tragic event, the public authorities continue to work diligently on multiple fronts. Their efforts encompass search and rescue operations, the evacuation of the injured, medical care for victims, and the mobilization of all necessary resources to address the far-reaching consequences of this earthquake.
