Moroccan football star Yassine Bounou has won Sevilla FC’s Castore Player of the Month award following an impressive May performance with the Spanish club.
The award recognizes the world-class football player’s performance as a key contributor to the club’s success in May.
Last month, international media celebrated Bounou for his heroic contribution to the club’s win during the Europa League final penalty shootout against AS Roma.
The performance also helped the Moroccan international be named the Hankook Player of the UEFA Europa League final.
Bounou joined Sevilla in September 2019. The Atlas Lion appears to be committed to the Spanish club as he has refused many offers from prolific clubs – particularly following his eye-catching performance during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
In May, Bounou reiterated his loyalty to the club, stressing that Sevilla has “given” him a “lot”
“I also do my best to give it back what it gave me. I’m not thinking about anything else. It is a big team and I will do my best to give it the level I’m required to,” he said.
The remarks are similar to a statement he made in February, when the club was in a precarious situation battling relegation from La Liga.
“There was some talk with some teams, but [along] with my agent I did not feel it was the right time to go and tell Monchi [director of football at Sevilla] that I needed to leave… I didn’t feel it,” he told AS in February.
Reports recently speculated that Bounou might be leaving after all, as head coach Jose Luis Mendilibar started benching the goalkeeper during La Liga games.
The speculation, however, seems to have ended following his key performances during recent games, including the final Europa League final against Roma.
