President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the takeover and conversion of the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia, Nasarawa State, to the Federal University of Lafia Teaching Hospital.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, said the President’s decision was in response to an earlier request by the Nasarawa State Government.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the takeover and conversion of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia, to the Federal University of Lafia Teaching Hospital, Nasarawa, following a request by the Nasarawa State Government,” the statement read.
The conversion of the health facility to a federal teaching hospital is expected to “not only enhance the training of students in medical and allied sciences but also boost healthcare delivery in the state,” the statement added.
President Tinubu was quoted as saying he remains committed to ensuring the social welfare and healthcare security of Nigerians, and will “aggressively sustain his administration’s investment drive and efforts in the sector.”
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly had approved the ceding of the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital to the federal government in 2022 to serve as the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia.
The Majority Leader of the House, Tanko Tunga, had earlier read a request letter from Governor Abdullahi Sule for the ceding of the hospital to the federal government.
