Nigeria internationals Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey played pivotal roles as Fulham secured a draw against Manchester United in their Premier League clash at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
Iwobi was instrumental for the Cottagers, featuring for the full 90 minutes and providing the assist for Emile Smith Rowe’s equaliser after United had taken the lead.
The 28-year-old midfielder also registered three shots during the match, though he was unable to find the back of the net himself.
Since the beginning of last season, Iwobi has been directly involved in more Premier League goals than any other Fulham player, contributing to 16 goals with nine strikes and seven assists.
Fellow Nigerian Calvin Bassey also completed the full match, registering 32 passes whilst committing two fouls during the encounter.
However, the defender endured a mixed afternoon after conceding a penalty for a foul inside the box, though he was fortunate to see Bruno Fernandes blaze the resulting spot-kick wide of the target.
The performance continues an impressive record for the Nigerian pair against United, with Fulham having scored four goals in their previous five meetings against the Manchester club.
Both players have been directly involved in all four of those goals, with Iwobi contributing one goal and one assist, whilst Bassey has found the net twice against the Red Devils.
The result maintains Fulham’s positive start to the Premier League season, with the Nigerian duo proving once again to be key assets for Marco Silva’s side.
Their continued partnership in the Fulham midfield and defence demonstrates the growing influence of Nigerian talent in the English top flight.
