Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has announced 200 new scholarship recipients as part of her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) in collaboration with AUDA-NEPAD.
The announcement came during a comprehensive overview of RHI’s forthcoming activities and partnerships across various sectors.
Mrs Tinubu praised the governors’ wives for their crucial role in RHI’s success throughout different states. She highlighted the initiative’s expanding collaborations with key government agencies, including the Federal Ministries of Education, Health, and Agriculture, as well as UBEC, TETFUND, and NPHCDA.
To support small businesses, the First Lady said her pet project, RHI, has given a grant of N50,000 to petty traders. “It’s not a loan; it is just to help small businesses,” Mrs Tinubu explained, underscoring the initiative’s dedication to grassroots economic development.
The RHI is also set to launch a broader Economic Empowerment Programme for Petty Traders, offering similar N50,000 grants to 1,000 women in each state and the Federal Capital Territory.
Progress was also reported in cultural initiatives, with a winner announced in the One Nigeria Unity Fabric competition. Production of the winning design has begun in textile manufacturing centres in Kano and Lagos, promoting national unity through fashion.
In a solemn moment, the First Lady led attendees in observing a minute’s silence for the late music icon, Onyeka Onwenu, who died recently.
The multi-faceted approach of the Renewed Hope Initiative, led by the First Lady, demonstrates a commitment to holistic national development, encompassing education, economic empowerment, and cultural unity. As these programmes unfold, they are expected to have significant positive impacts across Nigerian communities.
