Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has directly addressed top ranking civil servants, demanding tangible progress within the federal bureaucracy to change the narrative about Nigeria.
Speaking at a special meeting of senior officials in the presidential villa, Tinubu conveyed an unequivocal message – shape up or face consequences.
“Before the next meeting, I want to see progress in the civil service, he said.
“I have been sending people to check on the level of work that gets done.
“Service to the nation is extremely important.”
This revelation caused visible discomfort amongst the assembled directors, permanent secretaries and other high level personnel. Many likely assumed their activities went mostly unchecked.
“We are to change the narrative of Nigeria. You and I can change the perception about Africa, not just Nigeria,” he added.
While acknowledging results may not be perfect, the president called for focus and urgency.
“We might not get it 100 percent right, but if we are focused, I think we can totally change and reshape the trajectory of our country in the right direction,” he stated.
In closing his address, Tinubu put civil servants on notice – he will expect a progress report at their next meeting. ent has made one thing clear – the time for excuses is over.
