President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria was received by King Charles III at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday for a private meeting, underscoring the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
The two leaders, who last met at the COP28 Climate Summit in Dubai, discussed global and regional matters of mutual concern, with a particular focus on the pressing issue of climate change.
Their talks explored potential collaborations ahead of the COP29 Summit in Azerbaijan and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa.
President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to addressing climate change in a manner consistent with the country’s energy security goals. He also expressed Nigeria’s willingness to adopt global sustainability strategies.
The leaders exchanged ideas on innovative approaches to climate financing and funding, expressing shared interest in strengthening partnerships by leveraging Nigeria’s influential position in Africa and the Commonwealth.
This meeting, which took place at the King’s request, marks a significant step in fostering bilateral relations between the two nations.
