Nigerian actress and producer Funke Akindele’s latest movie, “A Tribe Called Judah,” is set to hit the screens of selected ODEON cinemas in the UK from December 29.
The movie, which has already been released in all cinemas across Nigeria, will be shown at ODEON Cinemas in Streatham, Surrey Quays, Manchester GN, and Greenwich, she says.
Akindele, who wrote and produced the movie, took to her social media pages to express her excitement about the UK release. She wrote, “We put in our all, to ensure we get this masterpiece done. ✅ 💯”
The movie follows the story of a family of boys “who decide to rob a small mall with the help of their mother. However, on getting there, they are faced with armed robbers.
It stars Akindele alongside other notable Nigerian actors such as Timini Egbuson, Fathia Balogun, Etinosa Idemudia, Uzor Arukwe, Jide Kene Achufusi, Paschaline Alex and Boma Akpore.
The news of the UK release comes after the movie broke multiple box office records in Nigeria and West Africa withing a short term.
It has become the biggest single day gross for all films released in 2023, as well as the biggest opening for a film released in 2023. The movie has also emerged as the biggest overall film in Nigeria and West Africa, as well as the biggest opening for a Funke Akindele film. Additionally, it has set a new record as the biggest opening of all time for a Nollywood film.
Tickets for the screenings are now available for purchase on the ODEON website or at any of the selected cinemas.
Akindele’s previous movies, “Jenifa” and “Jenifa Diaries,” have also enjoyed success both in Nigeria and internationally. “A Tribe Called Judah” is expected to follow suit and further cement Akindele’s position as one of Nigeria’s most talented and successful filmmakers.
