Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has joined the long list of well-wishers saluting the heroic performance of the Flying Eagles after defeating host nation Argentina in the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The Flying Eagles secured a Quarter-Final berth after sending the tournament hosts out of the championship by a 2-0 scoreline.
The victory comes just three days after the Tinubu was sworn into office and the new Nigerian President took to his official social media page to praise the “marvellous” team.
“I congratulate our marvellous Flying Eagles for that sound 2-0 defeat of the host team, Argentina, to secure a quarter final slot at the U-20 World Cup. I’m rooting for you guys, go and make us proud!,” he said.

Ibrahim Muhammad’s 61 minutes opener and a second from Rilwanu Sarki in the first minute of added time was all that Nigeria needed to send the record six-time U-20 world champions packing from the tournament.
It is the Flying Eagle’s first quarter-final qualification at FIFA U-20 World Cup in 12 years and will clash with South Korea, who beat Ecuador by 3-1.
