Qatar Airways will connect Marrakech with Doha with a new route that will see the company operate flights four times a week.
The flights will be operated on board Boeing 787-8 airliners, also known as Dreamliners, with a capacity of 232 seats, including 22 business class seats.
Morocco’s National Tourism Office (ONMT), the National Airports Office (ONDA), and the Marrakech-Safia Regional Tourism Council, held a welcome reception at the Marrakech-Menara Airport for the passengers who boarded the inaugural flight on Friday.
The announcement comes as Marrakech continues experiencing an influx of tourists, reporting a steadily increasing number of travelers throughout 2023.
Recent data from the Regional Tourism Delegation showed a 63% increase in tourist arrivals during May 2023 compared to the same period in 2019, showcasing the city’s popularity and its recovery from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Some reports also credit Morocco’s World Cup performance in 2022 with the increase in travelers to the North African country.
By being linked with Doha, Marrakech will also be connected to Qatar Airways’ vast network which notably includes cities in Asia and Europe, which could mean more visitors for the city from around the world.
