Accra, Ghana – Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Enekwechi continued his shot put dominance across Africa after successfully defending his title at the 13th African Games in Accra on Tuesday.
Competing at the University of Ghana stadium, the Nigerian star overcame the field with a massive throw of 21.06m, making him the only athlete to surpass the 21m mark in the event.
Since winning his first African shot put title on home soil in 2018, the 29-year-old Enekwechi has remained undefeated in competitions across the continent.
His latest triumph adds another gold to his growing collection of accolades, which includes the African Games title he won four years ago.
With the victory, Enekwechi extended his prideful streak of never losing a shot put event in Africa since that breakthrough 2018 win in Nigeria.
The 21.06m mark ended up being well clear of the rest of the field in Accra.
For the Nigerian camp, Enekwechi’s gold was one of the highlights on the first couple days of track and field action at the African Games.
With his dominion over the African shot put scene secure once again, Enekwechi can now set his sights on making an impact at bigger global events like the World Championships and Olympics over the next couple years.
