Ghana’s Rose Yeboah has fallen short in her bid to reach the women’s high jump final at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The 22-year-old, making her Olympic debut, failed to clear 1.92m after three attempts in Friday’s qualifying round at the Stade de France.
Yeboah, who served as Ghana’s flagbearer at the opening ceremony, successfully cleared 1.83m and 1.88m in earlier rounds. However, she was unable to match her personal best of 1.97m, set just two months ago at the NCAA Division I Championships.
The two-time African champion has enjoyed a meteoric rise in recent years, claiming gold at the 2023 World University Games and finishing seventh at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Despite the disappointment, Yeboah’s appearance marks a significant milestone for Ghanaian athletics, as she became the country’s first Olympic high jumper.
Her journey to Paris included victories at the African Championships in 2022 and 2024, as well as gold medals at the African Games in 2019 and 2024.
Yeboah’s personal best of 1.97m, achieved in June, had raised hopes for a strong showing in Paris. However, the young athlete was unable to replicate that form when it mattered most.
As the competition continues, Ghana’s focus will now shift to its remaining athletes as the nation seeks its first Olympic medal since 1992.
