Rwanda Police Spokesperson, CP John Bosco Kabera, told Kigali Today that the auction will be held at the parking lot of the Kacyiru Police Headquarters from August 10 to 12. Visits to these vehicles began on July 22nd and ended on August 4th.
CP Kabera returned to the reason why these vehicles are being auctioned, “Before we auction these seized vehicles, we first remind all Rwandans that the law stipulates that any vehicle that has been seized, that if it has been parked in the Police parking lot for more than a month, it will be auctioned.”
The police, before the auction, reminds all people who have paid fines for their impounded vehicles to hurry and bring the receipts to the police headquarters in Kacyiru where the vehicles are parked and take their vehicles, before the auction.
He also reminded people not to claim a vehicle that is not theirs because it is a crime punishable by law.
CP John Bosco Kabera says that the Police first issued this announcement to remind the owners of the seized vehicles to participate in the pursuit before they go to the auction.
The police explain that these vehicles are those that have been arrested for various crimes, but they are not driving them. There are those who have had an accident without insurance, the third category is for those who drive their vehicles away from the mistakes they have made and do not come back to ask.
As for the vehicles seized in the province, they are not included in the auction this time, but they will be arranged for it.
When asked where the money from the auction of seized vehicles goes, CP Kabera announced that it goes to the state coffers.
Article No. 38 of Law No. 34/1987 stipulates that if the vehicle has been seized for more than a month, it can be auctioned. However, the Police said they are giving them enough time to solve their problems because the last auction was held in March 2022.
