Southampton are in talks with Villarreal over a potential £20m deal to sign talented forward Nicolas Jackson, 90min reports.
The Saints are keen to add players this January in a bid to stay in the Premier League following a disastrous start to the 2022/23 season. The south coast club currently sit at the foot of the league table having taken just 15 points from their opening 19 games of the campaign.
Having already secured the services of 2022 FIFA World Cup star Mislav Orsic from Dinamo Zagreb, Southampton are attempting to bring in a few more players before the end of the January transfer window.
One of these players is Jackson, whom the club is in talks with Villarreal over. The 21-year-old has been a valuable rotation option for the Spanish club so far this season, making eight starts and coming off of the bench on six occasions – scoring two and assisting two in La Liga.
Sources have told 90min that Aston Villa, Everton and Bournemouth are all interested in signing Jackson this winter too.
Any move Jackson could make this January will likely scupper Arnaut Danjuma’s attempts to join a Premier League club. 90min can report that Villarreal are unlikely to allow both to leave in one window, with Danjuma a notable target for Villa also.
