Tanzanian Foreign Minister January Makamba has stated Joshua Mollel was killed immediately after he was taken hostage.
Mollel becomes the second Tanzanian student who have died in the 7 October attack by Hamas, after his colleague Clemence Felix Mtenga who was also killed in the attack.
Joshua Mollel was working as an agricultural intern at a kibbutz which was attacked by Hamas gunmen on 7 October.
Joshua’s family has been informed about the death of their son.
“We are planning to take Mr Mollel, another family member and a government official to Israel to get more information on the matter,” Mr Makamba posted on X, formerly Twitter.
“We have been informed by the Government of Israel that Joshua Mollel, a young Tanzanian who was he is studying in Israel, and who we lost communication with him since the 7th of October 2023, and which the Government has been doing great effort to get his information since At that time, he was killed immediately after captured by Hamas on the 7th October 2023.”
According to reports around 350 Tanzanians live in Israel, mostly students pursuing agricultural-related studies.
