Leading Ghanaian beverage and bottled water company Twillium Industrial Company has stepped up its support for Ghana’s amputee football team, as they prepare for the upcoming 2024 African Amputee Football Cup of Nations (AAFCON) tournament in Egypt.
It represents the second installment made by the team’s beverage sponsor, as part of a larger partnership agreement facilitated by Karivan Travel and Tours, a Ghanaian travel and tourism company serving as a facilitator for the team.
At a ceremony held at the Mile 7 park in Ghana’s capital Accra on Friday, April 5, 2024, Twillium presented the team with a generous package of beverages and bottled mineral water with an undisclosed amount of money to kick off the team’s 12-day training camp ahead of the continental competition.
The mission is to keep the players and officials hydrated as they ramp up their preparations toward the tournament that begins on April 19 in Egypt.
“We are extremely grateful to Twillium Industrial Company for answering the call to support our national amputee football team,” said Karivan Travel and Tours CEO Kate Apietu.
“This donation is the second tranche of the sponsorship package we have secured to ensure the team can embark on their trip to Egypt successfully,” Apietu explained.
“It has not been easy to get corporate Ghana to back these talented athletes, so Twillium’s contribution is truly invaluable as the team prepares for the big tournament in Egypt.”
This sponsorship presentation was timed deliberately to give the team a perfect start to their all-important camping period.
The assembled players and team officials expressed their delight at Twillium’s generous support, with the players appealing for even more backing from the Ghanaian government and private sector companies.
“We are so appreciative of Twillium stepping up to assist us,” said team captain Richard Attah.
“The players are now beginning a 12-day training camp here in Ghana as the final countdown to the AAFCON begins.”
“This will make a big difference as we intensify our preparations and look to defend our African title. But we still need more support to give us the best chance of bringing the trophy home again.”
The Ghana Amputee Football Team are two-time champions and the defending titleholders of the prestigious AAFCON competition.
They will be aiming to retain their crown when the tournament kicks off from April 19-28, 2024 in Egypt.
Officials are confident the Ghana team can repeat as AAFCON champions, but stressed that securing adequate resources and backing from stakeholders will be crucial.
“If we receive the full support of the government and more leading companies like Twillium, I believe our team has what it takes to win the 2024 AAFCON tournament and bring the trophy back to Ghana,” said Team coach Stephen Richard Obeng.
He said they are now eager to showcase their skills on the continental stage and make their country proud.
The donation ceremony was a proud moment for the amputee footballers, as it sends them into this crucial preparation period with a real spring in their step.
