The Ugandan Police, in a commendable act of enforcing road safety regulations, have announced the arrest of a 43-year-old driver seen in a viral video using his phone while driving along the Kampala – Fortportal road.
Andrew Jemba, a 43-year-old driver, was captured in a viral video, breaking road safety regulations and sparking outrage among concerned citizens.
The arrest was made today at approximately 11 a.m. at the Kyegegwa Police Station, following an investigation into the viral video.
The footage clearly showed Jemba using his phone while operating a bus with registration number UBG 188P along the busy road.
He has been charged under Regulations 3(a) and 4 of the Traffic and Road Safety (Restriction of Use of Mobile Telephone) Regulations, 2004, while commending the public for their vigilance on road safety.
“Bus driver registration number UBG 188P one Andrew Jemba 43 years old, who was seen in the viral video using his phone while driving along Kampala – Fortportal road has been intercepted & arrested at Kyegegwa Police Station today at around 11 am, 1st November 2023,” the police said
