Despite seeing their Africa Cup of Nations dreams dashed in the semi-finals, DR Congo are refocused on finishing their campaign on a winning note, according to coach Sebastien Desabre.
The Leopards suffered heartbreak with their 1-0 extra time defeat to hosts Ivory Coast on Wednesday. But Desabre insists his squad will give their all to secure bronze against South Africa on Saturday.
“We need to finish on a positive note,” Desabre declared.
“We have come a long way; we have shown good things and we do not want a grain of sand to derail the machine. We will give everything to bring this medal home.”
While admitting improvements are still needed, the French tactician backed his team’s future prospects. “The results will be positive and we will do everything in place to improve this national team for the years to come,” he said.
Before bidding farewell to AFCON, Desabre offered congratulations to DR Congo’s passionate fans. “The Congolese were great with us,” he said. “From the bottom of my heart, I want to say thank you for everything.”
Despite falling short of the final, Desabre and DR Congo remain determined to celebrate their accomplishments with one last victory.
