Egyptian giants Zamalek have been dealt a significant setback ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup semi-final first leg clash against Ghanaian side Dreams FC. Veteran defender Omar Gaber has been ruled out of Sunday’s encounter due to a muscle injury.
The 32-year-old right-back was not included in the Zamalek squad list after picking up the knock during the team’s 2-1 victory over archrivals Ahly in the Cairo derby on Monday.
“Gaber suffered an adductor muscle injury during the derby but pushed himself to continue the game,” Zamalek doctor Mohamed Osama said on Friday.
Dr. Osama further added that Gaber will undergo a comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation program to facilitate his return to group training shortly.
Gaber, a versatile player who can operate as a right-back or a winger, sustained the injury during the team’s 2-1 victory over archrivals Ahly in the Cairo derby on Monday.
The club’s medical staff has confirmed that the 31-year-old will be unavailable for the crucial first leg tie against Dreams FC as he continues his recovery process.
The absence of the experienced Gaber will be a considerable blow for Zamalek, as they aim to take a positive result from the semi-final first leg clash in preparation for the decisive return fixture. Gaber’s leadership, defensive solidity, and ability to contribute in attack will be sorely missed by the White Knights.
Despite the setback, Zamalek will be determined to overcome the challenge and secure a favorable result in the first leg, as they continue their pursuit of the CAF Confederation Cup title. The Egyptian giants will look to their experienced campaigners and talented squad depth to step up and guide the team through this crucial phase of the competition.
The absence of Gaber comes as a setback to the hopes of the Cairo giants, who aim to secure their second Confederation Cup title after lifting the trophy in 2019.
The semi-final tie between Zamalek and Dreams FC promises to be an enthralling encounter, with both teams vying for a place in the final of Africa’s second-tier club competition. Zamalek’s ability to cope with Gaber’s absence could prove pivotal in their quest for continental success.
