Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia, has sent his congratulatory message to the Copper Queens of Zambia after edging past Ghana’s Black Queens in the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers.
Black Queens fought gallantly but ultimately succumbed to Zambia in a 3-3 draw, sealing their exit from the 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers with a 4-3 aggregate loss.
The match unfolded dramatically with Zambia’s captain, Barbara Banda, striking first to briefly extend their aggregate lead to 2-0. However, Ghana’s Gifty Assifuah swiftly responded, leveling the score to 2-1 on aggregate. Doris Boaduwaa’s goal further fueled Ghana’s hopes, evening the aggregate score to 2-2.
A stroke of misfortune hit as an own goal by Gifty Assifuah gave Zambia the lead on aggregate in the 61st minute. Unfazed, Azumah Bugri’s goal restored parity at 3-3 on aggregate in the 64th minute.
In a tense finale, Barbara Banda secured her second goal in the 90+7th minute, sealing Zambia’s 4-3 aggregate victory and dashing Ghana’s hopes of a historic Olympic debut.
