Senegal recorded Africa’s first win in the 2022 World Cup following a 3-1 result over hosts Qatar.
The 2021 AFCON winners scored their first goal of the tournament just before the half time whistle via Boulaye Dia who pounced on a mistake from the opponents.
Diedhiou doubled the lead for the Teranga Lions shortly after the second half started but Ghana-born Mohammed Muntari gave the Qatari’s hope when halved the deficit for the host with a stunning header.
That, however, proved to be nothing but a consolation as Bamba Dieng restored Senegal’s two-goal cushion to secure all three points for the Lions of Tarenga.
Qatar are now on the brink of an early elimination from the tournament whilst Senegal have renewed hope with a game agaisnt Ecuador still to come.
