Sporting CP Playmaker Abdul Fatawu Issahaku scored an audacious 60-yard goal from the halfway line for to earn a point for the Black Mateors in a1-1 first leg draw with Algeria in their 2023 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualifier on Friday.
Fatawu’s simply sensational goal for Ghana stunned the Algerians at the Annaba stadium before they could come back to draw through game a late penalty.
The 19-year-old Ghana star Fatawu stole the show when he launched an 85th minute effort from midfield to beat Algeria’s Teddy Boulhendi before the Nice goalkeeper could scramble back into position.
Fatawu’s goal came after Ghana goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim kept the match scoreless by saving a penalty kick from Mounsef Bakrar in the 80th minute.
Algeria managed to make a late charge and were awarded another penalty kick with Chamseddine Bekkouche putting his spot kick just beyond the diving Ibrahim.
Coach Ibrahim Tanko and his charges were simply incredible in surviving numerous dangerous attack from the Algerians.
The two teams will meet again on March 28 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi where a scoreless draw or victory will send Ghana through to the finals in Morocco set to take place starting in late June.
