The Head of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, on Tuesday August 29, 2023, travelled to Egypt on his first trip outside the country since the start of the conflict with paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
In a statement released in the early morning, the Sovereign Council said that al-Burhan would discuss with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi the unfolding situation in Sudan, strategies to enhance and advance the bilateral relations between the two countries as well as addressing matters of shared concern.
He will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ali Al-Sadiq, Director of the General Intelligence Service, Lt Gen Ahmed Ibrahim Mufadal, and Lt Gen Mirghani Idris Suleiman, Director General of the Defence Industries System.
The statement did not mention the efforts led by Egypt to end the Sudanese conflict within the framework of the neighbouring countries’ initiative.
Al-Burhan on Monday expressed resolve to defeat the RSF and excluded a deal with its leader and his former deputy.
