A major regional push to mainstream Digital Climate Advisory Services (DCAS) across North Africa is underway as a diverse cohort of changemakers from Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia converge in Cairo for a training of trainers program.
The hybrid event has convened key public and private sector stakeholders working to mainstream digital climate information dissemination in their countries.
Organized by the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program (AAAP), the two-day hybrid seminar entered its second day on Tuesday at the Safir Hotel in Giza. Public and private sector participants are receiving an intensive knowledge transfer on promoting DCAS adoption through their work at national levels.
The programme that enters the second day on Tuesday, comes with diverse mix of policymakers, agritech entrepreneurs, researchers, extension agents and climate-smart enterprises aims to cultivate a “Network of Practice” empowered to drive DCAS scaling across the region.
Over the course of the program, attendees are diving deep into key facets like developing contextualized business models, forging strategic partnerships, gender-responsive design, and deploying frontier technologies to enhance DCAS products.
“The Training of Trainers format aims at informing and strengthening the capacity of these public and private actors to share knowledge, best practices, and experiences and to explore the latest innovations and approaches that can promote the adoption of DCAS in their countries,” organisers said in a statement.
On Day 1, participants shared experiences navigating challenges and best practices in DCAS implementation across the Maghreb region. The agenda also covered crucial strategies for reaching underserved populations through tailored content, languages and channels.
As the threat of climate change disrupts food systems and rural livelihoods, this comprehensive capacity transfer is accelerating Africa’s digital climate advisory transformation through coordinated grassroots action.
The seminar, supported by the AAAP’s implementing partners the African Development Bank, Global Center on Adaptation and IFAD, wraps up on Tuesday with discussion on: Prospects of DCAS Applications in North Africa which involves group discussions about the innovations required to enable DCAS supply chains – regulations, technologies, infrastructure, business linkages, customized finance, and knowledge management.
