Kaiser Chiefs have announced they will honor their legendary goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, after 25 years of service to the club as they play Polokwane City on Saturday.

When Itumeleng Khune takes the field at FNB Stadium on Saturday for Kaizer Chiefs’ crucial Premiership clash against Polokwane City, it will mark more than just another game for the legendary goalkeeper.

The encounter will serve as a poignant celebration of Khune’s iconic career with the Glamour Boys, providing the Amakhosi faithful an opportunity to bid farewell to one of the club’s all-time greats.

Khune, a product of Chiefs’ famed youth development system, has been an ever-present figure between the posts for the Naturena-based giants since making his senior team debut in the 2004/05 season.

Over the past two decades, the Ventersdorp-born shot-stopper has etched his name into Amakhosi folklore, cementing his status as one of the club’s all-time greats.

“With the Club intent on thanking our fanbase for their loyal support by finishing the season on a positive note, Kaizer Chiefs fans have another good reason to flock to FNB Stadium this Saturday, 18 May, with legendary goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, set to be honoured ahead of the team’s final home match of the campaign,” the club said.

On Saturday, the curtain will begin to fall on Khune’s glittering Chiefs career as the club plans to honor his invaluable contributions in front of the adoring FNB Stadium faithful. It promises to be an emotionally charged occasion as teammates, coaches, and supporters pay tribute to a true legend of South African football.

At 36 years old, Khune’s enduring presence and longevity in the Chiefs goal is a testament to his professionalism, dedication, and sheer talent. Few players in the modern era have shown such unwavering loyalty to a single club, let alone one of Chiefs’ stature.

While the match itself carries immense importance for Amakhosi’s aspirations this season, the occasion will undoubtedly be about celebrating Khune’s indelible legacy. From his heroics in cup finals to his leadership and mentorship of younger goalkeepers, the bespectacled icon has left an indelible mark on Chiefs and South African football.

As the Khune family, including his wife and children, look on from the stands, the FNB Stadium faithful will have the opportunity to express their gratitude and bid a fond farewell to one of their own. Win, lose or draw, Saturday’s game will be etched into Chiefs folklore as the day the club saluted an authentic legend.

For Khune, the match will represent the culmination of a journey that began over two decades ago as a starry-eyed youngster. As he soaks in the adulation and applause, he can reflect with immense pride on a career that has inspired generations of Chiefs supporters and goalkeepers alike.
