The African Union (AU) has joined in celebrating Eritrean cyclist Biniam Girmay’s historic green jersey win at the Tour de France, days after his triumphant return back home.

Girmay made history on 21 July by becoming the first Black African rider to win the green jersey at the Tour de France.

The 24-year-old Intermarché-Wanty team member clinched the prestigious points classification with a total of 387 points, besting seasoned sprinters Jasper Philipsen and Bryan Coquard.
