The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced the appointment of German coach Bruno Labbadia as the new manager of the Super Eagles.
Labbadia, 58, replaces Finidi George, who stepped down in June following a disappointing run of results.
he appointment was confirmed on Tuesday morning in a statement from the NFF. Labbadia becomes the 37th Head Coach of the Super Eagles. The federation’s official announcement read:
“German, Bruno Labbadia, becomes 37th Head Coach of the @NGSuperEagles. The Nigeria Football Federation has announced that it has reached an agreement with German tactician, Bruno Labbadia, to become the Head Coach of Nigeria’s Senior Men National Team, Super Eagles.”
Dr Mohammed Sanusi, the federation’s General Secretary, said the NFF Executive Committee had approved the recommendation of the Technical and Development sub-committee to hire Labbadia.
The German brings considerable experience to the role, having managed several top-flight clubs in Europe, including Hamburg, Stuttgart and Wolfsburg. His appointment is seen as a significant coup for Nigerian football, with hopes high that he can bring stability and success to the national team.
Labbadia’s first task will be to lead the Super Eagles in next month’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Nigeria have struggled recently, failing to impress in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers under George’s leadership. However, Labbadia’s arrival has sparked renewed optimism that the team can improve their performances.
The NFF has expressed confidence in Labbadia’s ability to deliver results, citing his experience and expertise as key factors in his appointment.
