The Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland has reminded the world that collective responsibilities are needed to foster lasting and sustainable peace.
Scotland made a call through her official Twitter account as she joins Rwandans and Friends in commemorating the victims of the 1994 Genocide against Tusti that started today, April 7.
“Today we commemorate the International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda and pay tribute to those who lost their lives and those who suffered,” she said
In addition, she commends Commonwealth Chair-in-Office President Paul Kagame and the Government for their work toward rebuilding and unifying the country.
Meanwhile, several individuals, dignitaries, and institutions are continuing to share their messages of comfort and hope as the commemoration period commences.
The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, on Friday morning, called on the international community to reflect on the tragedy and take action to prevent similar atrocities from happening again.
Every year, on April 7, Rwandans and friends of Rwanda across the world, join hands to begin a 100-days commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in which over a million lives perished.
The commemoration is aimed at paying tribute to the victims, standing with the survivors, as well as recognising the resilience of Rwandans.
