Sixteen dentistry students from Sudan who recently arrived in Kigali seeking asylum, have completed their final exams at the University of Rwanda (UR) School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Kigali.

They are part of a larger group of over 200 medical students who arrived in Rwanda from Sudan earlier this month, compelled to continue their education after a military upheaval disrupted their academic pursuits.

The students who originated from the University of Medical Sciences and Technology (UMST) in Khartoum, Sudan are now enrolled at UR’s School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Abdalla Aljabry, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Medical Science and Technology of Sudan, said: “the 16 students together with other 14 who were examined in Sudan make up a team of 30 new doctors are poised to contribute their knowledge towards serving the community.”
