Accra, March 12, 2024 – Ghana’s U-20 men’s football team, the Black Satellites, secured their first victory at the 13th African Games with a 3-1 triumph over The Gambia in their second group A match on Tuesday.
Playing at the Accra Sports Stadium, Desmond Ofei’s side took the lead through Misibau Aziz’s 13th minute strike after capitalizing on a goalkeeping error.
Despite dominating possession and creating numerous chances, Ghana failed to extend their advantage before halftime.
However, the Black Satellites doubled their lead three minutes into the second half when Abdul Aziz Issah pounced on a rebound to make it 2-0.
The Gambia pulled one back through Ceesah’s strike late on, but substitute Jerry Afriyie secured the 3-1 win for Ghana with a composed 89th minute finish.
The victory gives Ghana a crucial three points in Group A as they bid to qualify for the knockout rounds.
Ghana’s next group game is against Benin on March 15 at the University of Ghana Stadium.
The Black Satellites are aiming to improve on their quarter-final exit at the last African Games in 2019.
