Qatari club Al-Rayyan have recently lost their Moroccan winger Sofiane Boufal who will be unavailable from the field for several months, and will replace him with his compatriot Achraf Bencharki.
Bencharki has been available since breaking his contract with the Emirati club Al-Jazira in July.
The player is said to be giving priority to the Qatari League champions, despite strong interest from Cairo giants Al Ahly and Zamalek.
Boufal incurred a hamstring injury during a match against Qatar SC on August 25 and is unavailable for three months, according to an update released by Al Rayyan on August 28.
To identify the best course of action, additional tests will be performed by the club’s medical staff.
As a result of his injury, Boufal will not manage to participate in the Moroccan national team’s upcoming matches against Liberia on September 9 and Burkina Faso on September 12.
If the injury is still severe, Boufal could also miss out on the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
Already, the player has been dropped from the Atlas Lions’ squad for this month’s international break.
Other Atlas Lions players who will reportedly be missing the Moroccan team’s games later this month due to injury include the goalkeeper Munir El Mohamedi and midfielder Amine Harit.
Although Harit features on the list of players Atlas Lions’ coach has called up for the team’s September fixtures, reports suggest that the player is unlikely to be active on the pitch this month due to injury.
