Nigerian music superstar David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, received a huge honour on Friday as he was recognised t as an “Outstanding Georgia Citizen” by the Georgia House of Representatives.
The award came after Davido attended a Georgia General Assembly meeting with State Representatives, where he was acknowledged on record for his contributions to music and positive influence on youth culture.
Taking to X page to share the news with his fans, Davido wrote: “This morning, I attended U.S. State of Georgia General assembly meeting with the Georgia House of Representatives and Georgia State Senate to be recognised as an ‘Outstanding Georgia Citizen’… God is good.”
A native of Atlanta via Lagos, Nigeria, Davido first broke onto the afrobeats scene in 2011 and has since become one of Africa’s biggest artists with back-to-back hits and sold-out shows across the globe. He maintains close ties to the state of Georgia, where he owns a home.
The award plaque was presented by Representative Carolyn Hugley of Columbus, who spoke of Davido’s cultural influence in improving perceptions of Africa abroad. Also in attendance was Nigeria’s Consul General in Atlanta, who congratulated Davido on the historic honour.
The recognition coincides with Davido’s latest single and his upcoming world tour later this year.
