The African National Congress (ANC) bid a final farewell today to Keletile “Kelly” Mathatha, a staff member who was fatally shot earlier this week in a tragic incident outside Pretoria.
The slain ANC staff was laid to rest on Saturday, March 30th after an emotional funeral service.
Mathatha, who worked in the office of ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula at Luthuli House in Johannesburg, was one of five people killed in a shooting at Molewa Pub and Grill in Hebron on Monday, March 25th.
In a statement, the ANC paid tribute to Mathatha, saying “Her contributions to the ANC were invaluable.
Today the ANC bids farewell to Keletile “Kelly” Mathatha, whose kindness and professionalism left a lasting impact on the organisation at large. Kelly will be dearly remembered. Her contributions to the ANC were invaluable and her legacy will forever live on in our memories.

Ahead of her burial on Saturday, members of the ANC Women’s League in Tshwane held a “blousing ceremony” at Mathatha’s home at Soshanguve South, Extention 1, north of Pretoria on Thursday.
Over 200 people, led by the league’s Gauteng Provincial Secretary Theliswa Mgweba, sang struggle songs and hung a blouse that remained at the home until the funeral service.
This traditional ceremony involves leaving an item of clothing at the home of the deceased until the burial day, when it is handed over to grieving family members.
Mathatha’s untimely death has drawn widespread condemnation and sadness from colleagues and communities. The motive for the fatal shooting remains under investigation by authorities.
