The national Moroccan futsal team won against the Comoros by a wide margin (5-0), in Jeddah, as part of the 2023 Arab Futsal Cup held in Saudi Arabia.
Despite the absence of important players Soufiane El Mesrar, Bilal Bakkali, and Anas Bakkali, Morocco managed to comfortably defeat the opposition.
The five goals came through the contributions of Idriss Raiss El Fenni who scored twice, while Youssef Jouad, Hamza Ouizzane, and Othmane Boumezou scored the remaining goals for the Atlas Lions.
Hicham Dguig’s squad will now face Kuwait and Lebanon in the group stage.
The match against Lebanon will take place on Friday June 9 at 7:30 p.m. Moroccan time, while the game against Kuwait will be on June 11 at 12:00 p.m.
After a match against Iraq in March where the Moroccan team recorded a score of 5-2, national coach Dguig told the press that “we have included new players, others have been put aside, while others have reached the end of their career.”
“We hope to continue to shine because we are going to play in the Arab Cup in two months. As holders of the title, we must be at the top level to maintain it,” he added.
Last year marked the sixth edition of the tournament, where the Moroccan team were crowned champions for the second time in a row.
This year, they have started their campaign to add a third title to their record.
