Athletics Kenya has named a strong 39-member provisional squad to compete in national trials on April 6th at Nyayo National Stadium to determine the Kenyan teams that will represent the country at the prestigious World Athletics Relays event in Bahamas on May 4-5, 2024.
The lineup released by Athletics Kenya features a talented mix of sprint, middle distance, and field event specialists from across the gender disciplines. On the women’s side, the 28-athlete roster is headlined by world-class names like Milcent Ndoro (11.57m triple jump), Delilah Atyang (12.48 100m), Esther Mbagari (11.6 3000m steeplechase), and Monica Safania (12.02 100m hurdles).
The men’s 11-member contingent includes standouts such as Boniface Mweresa (10.56 100m), Meshack Babu (10.36 long jump), Samuel Waweru (10.54 3000m steeplechase), and William Mbevi Mutunga (14.83 110m hurdles).
The entry marks range from sprints like Hesborn Ochieng’s 10.22 in the 100m up to middle distance star Jane Wangari Chege’s 1:01.86 in the 800m, showcasing Kenya’s depth across relay disciplines.
Kenya has traditionally fielded world-class quartets at the World Relays, medaling in both the 4x800m and 4x1500m at last year’s edition.
With this talented provisional squad, they will be hopeful of more podium success in Bahamas while continuing to unearth new relay talent.
The April 6th trials at Nyayo Stadium promise to be a hard-fought affair as the listed athletes vie to book their tickets to represent Kenya at the global relay spectacle next month.
