Athletic Kenya has sounded the starting gun for the country’s journey to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris as athletes get busier with series of trials to earn a spot in the team.
With just three months to go until the opening ceremony in the French capital, Kenya’s elite athletes will now have to intensify their training and qualification efforts.
The country has announced a trial session to select the team for World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24 next month, all in line for the bigger project in France in July.
In a statement posted on their official channels, the governing body declared “Paris Olympics Games loading”, signaling the commencement of preparations for the next Olympic Games.
Authorities will be focused on identifying and readying the nation’s best runners, jumpers and throwers to compete for Olympic medals.
Kenya has built a reputation as an athletics superpower on the Olympic stage, especially in distance running events like the marathons, 10,000m and steeplechase.
The delayed 2020 Tokyo Games saw Kenya capture 4 gold medals and 10 medals in total across track and field competitions.
The hard work and sacrifice begins again as they target the podium at Paris 2024. Kenya’s unique distance running talent and Olympic pedigree will be on display in France.”
Over the coming months, Athletic Kenya will confirm Olympic qualifying standards and organize trial events to ultimately select their team for Paris 2024.
