Shocking CCTV footage has emerged showing the moment two armed robbers on a motorbike carried out a brazen daylight heist outside a bank in Ghana’s capital Accra on Monday afternoon.
The surveillance video, reposted online by social media user EdHub, captures the dramatic robbery unfolding at around 2:45 p.m. local time in front of the Pan-African Savings & Loans branch in the Spintex neighborhood.
In the footage, a vehicle can be seen pulling up to the bank entrance as two men riding a motorbike rapidly approach. The pillion rider can be seen firing several warning shots from a handgun into the air.
The date captured on the footage, indicates the robbery incident took place on Monday, May 27 at the Pan-African Savings and Loans branch at Spintex.
As the vehicle’s driver jumps out, the two robbers speed towards him. One of the assailants jumps off the bike, grabs what appears to be a bag or briefcase from the victim, and then flees with his accomplice back onto the motorbike.
The entire robbery takes place in a matter of seconds before the bike speeds off, leaving the victim standing on the sidewalk. No injuries were reported.
The video’s timestamps appear to be incorrect due to the CCTV system’s settings, according to Eddie Hub’s post. However, the audacity of the crime being committed in broad daylight has shocked many in Accra.
While armed robberies do periodically occur in the Ghanaian capital, this latest heist’s bold execution has raised fresh concerns over safety. Police have urged the public to remain calm as their investigation gets underway using the CCTV evidence.
No details about potential suspects or description of the stolen goods have been released yet by authorities. The Pan-African Savings & Loans bank has declined to comment at this stage.
