The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced Marrakesh will host its annual awards ceremony on 16 December, marking the Moroccan city’s third consecutive year staging the event.
The ceremony will celebrate the continent’s top footballing talent, with several stars expected to contend for the prestigious African Men’s Player of the Year award.
Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman, Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy, and Real Madrid’s Brahim Díaz are among those tipped to challenge Victor Osimhen’s hold on the men’s title.
The Napoli striker made history in 2023 by becoming the first Nigerian since Nwankwo Kanu to win the award, while Barcelona’s Asisat Oshoala claimed a record-extending women’s crown.
Morocco’s selection as host continues its prominent role in African football, having recently staged the Women’s African Champions League, won by local side AS FAR.
The North African nation is also preparing to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and will be part of the six-nation hosting consortium for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
