The record-holders were handed a tough start to their African campaign as they were drawn against Tunisian league runner-ups US Monastir.
The first-leg will take place in Tunisia on Sunday, October 9, before both teams face each other once again a week later in Cairo.
And Marcel Koller will have to do without the services of South African international Percy Tau, who is yet to recover from his thigh injury.
Al Ahly’s coaching staff led by Koller will prefer not to rush Tau into the games until he fully recovers, meaning he will also probably miss the return-leg.
However, the club has hopes that Tau will be ready for Egypt Super Cup against arch-rivals Zamalek on October 28.
