San Pedro-based club San Pedro FC has been crowned the champions of the 2023-24 Ivory Coast Ligue 1 after securing a 1-1 draw against Sporting Gagnoa on Saturday. Guy Bedi’s 72nd-minute penalty cancelled out Sporting Gagnoa’s 10th-minute.
It’s their first league title in their 20-year history. San Pedro won the title with two games to spare after playing 28 games. The champions have won 55 points, 7 more than second-placed team Asec Mimosa. An impressive 46 goals have been scored and 27 have been conceded.
The Ligue 1 title is San Pedro’s second title ever in their history after winning the 2019 Cote d’Ivoire Cup.
Mahamadou Sangare, head coach of the club is expecting to make an impact in next season’s CAF Champions League.
