Mayor of Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, has confirmed that she will be running for re-election on June 24, making a bold announcement on the occasion of the International Women’s Day.
It comes after completing her five-year term as the mayor the city and will be facing stiff competition from the ruling SLPP in the upcoming election.
To the delight of her hundreds of thousands of supporters across the City, on Wednesday, she said: “On this International Women’s Day, I am pleased to announce that I am running for re-election as the Mayor of Freetown on 24th June 2023”.
On Friday, 3rd March, 2023, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr was in South Carolina, USA where she delivered a keynote address at World Hope International’s Vision Summit, focusing on access to safe clean water, health and social protection.
