South Africa: Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr will contest June 24th mayoral election

Mayor of Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, has confirmed that she will be running for re-election on June 24, making a bold announcement on the occasion of the International Women’s Day.

It comes after completing her five-year term as the mayor the city and will be facing stiff competition from the ruling SLPP in the upcoming election.

To the delight of her hundreds of thousands of supporters across the City, on Wednesday, she said: “On this International Women’s Day, I am pleased to announce that I am running for re-election as the Mayor of Freetown on 24^th June 2023”.
