The CAF African Schools Football Championship has concluded with Ghana and Tanzania claiming continental titles after a thrilling weekend of youth football in Accra.
Ghana’s Under-15 girls dominated Uganda 2-0 in front of passionate home support to secure their first championship, while Tanzania’s Under-15 boys retained their crown by defeating Senegal on penalties after a goalless draw.
The competition, held at the University of Ghana from 23-26 April, featured eight boys’ and girls’ teams competing on the pitch, with participants also receiving guidance away from the field on a range of subjects in what organisers described as a “life-changing experience” for many.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe and Ghana’s FA President Okraku attended the finals and presented trophies to the victorious sides.
Ghana’s boys also enjoyed success by securing third place with a victory over Uganda, while South Africa’s girls claimed bronze with a narrow 2-1 win against Morocco.
The third edition of the championship for under-15 players extends the Confédération Africaine de Football’s investment in schools and youth football and included a series of workshops on Monday.
Individual honours went to South Africa’s Pulane Moloi as the girls’ top scorer, while Ghana’s Jennifer Awuku was named player of the tournament. In the boys’ competition, Ghana’s John Andor and Ingatus Cyril Acquah Hagan shared the top scorer award, while Senegal’s Souleymane Commissaire Faye was named best player.
Morocco and Tanzania were recognised with fair play awards in the girls’ and boys’ competitions, respectively.
The tournament represents a significant element of CAF’s strategy to develop football across Africa, combining competitive opportunities with grassroots development.
