The president of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended his congratulatory message to the President-Elect of the Republic of Senegal, His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Faye, on his historic victory in the presidential election of Sunday, 24th March, 2024.
“It is well-deserved, and a vindication of the trust and confidence reposed in him, and in his programme of economic transformation. I am hopeful that, under his leadership, Senegal will continue on the path of progress and prosperity, and strengthen further her position as a beacon of democracy and stability on the African continent”.
“The Ghanaian people and I also congratulate outgoing President, His Excellency Macky Sall, for his contribution to the progress and development of Africa, and for overseeing the conduct of peaceful, credible and transparent elections in Senegal. The elections have been a demonstration of President Macky Sall’s steadfast commitment to upholding democratic principles, and ensuring a peaceful electoral process. Senegal, West Africa, and, indeed, Africa, are grateful”, Akufo-Addo.
President Akufo-Addo said he looks forward to working closely with President-Elect Faye to enhance Ghanaian-Senegalese relations.
“Best wishes to him, and to the success of Senegal,” he added.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye, 44, amassed 54.28% of the total votes cast in the election as announced the country’s electoral body.
Mr Faye’s main challenger, former Prime Minister Amadou Ba of the ruling coalition, secured 35.79% of total votes.
The election recorded a voter turnout of 61%.
The Africa’s youngest elected president, has promised to put measures in place to address youth unemployment and the high cost of living.
